The Egyptian Equivalent

It came by surprise, several weeks back, when it was first rumored that there won’t be a new Assassin’s Creed Installment, this year. But instead, a game will be released in 2017 and will be set in Egypt, under the work title of “Assassin’s Creed: Empire”. Some took the rumors seriously, and some preferred to take them with a grain of salt.

However, few weeks ago, it was officially announced that Ubisoft won’t be making an Assassin’s Creed game, this year and will take the time to consider the future of the franchise and launch a new game in 2017.

A lot of us saw this as reinforcing to the rumors about It was also revealed that the games that will follow the 2017 game, will most likely not be released annually. The initial rumor also claimed that the game is part of a planned trilogy that will likely star the same protagonist, being in Ancient Egypt in the first game and then going to Ancient Rome and Greece, in the sequels.

Now, since the story of Juno, which is still far from over, is the main case of the modern day segment and the overarching narrative, and since it was mentioned before, in Assassin’s Creed II ending cutscene, that First Civ. members were misinterpreted as Gods, and how they had many names over the years, such as Minerva being named Mera, Merva, Jupiter was also known as Tinia and Juno was known as Uni. This brings us to our case, today:

ince all those deities shared different names across various cultures and civilizations, yet they all referred to the same members of the First Civilization / The Isu. Their stories were told throughout generations, some being forgotten over time, others were altered and fictionalized but they all referred to the same figures.

If the rumors are true and the next Assassin’s Creed is truly set in Ancient Egypt, then, like most Assassin’s Creed games, will feature a First Civilization site, most likely beneath the pyramids and will include a Piece of Eden of some sort and a First Civilization member. Since we often focused on the same members of the Capitoline Triad, instead of constantly introducing new members, then our main focus is Minerva, Jupiter and Juno.

Judging by the ending of Assassin’s Creed III and Revelations, the roles Jupiter and Minerva are basically over and the modern day story’s focus is on Juno.

The Egyptian equivalent of Juno is Isis/Hathor. or Mut, who is also a queen. Multiple characteristics make me think of the those as equivalents for Juno.

It must also be noted that since Juno is posing a direct threat, and is basically the main antagonist of the franchise, another First Civilization member will likely appear to stand against her. The most suitable candidate for the role, is the Isu member, Durga, who appeared at the end of Assassin’s Creed: Brahman comic book. She called out for the Assassins and Templars to unite against one common enemy, Juno. The Egyptian equivalent for Durga is Sekhmet.

“Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.”
